  1. It depends on what sort of establishment you're eating in.  If an ordinary cafe, then I don't expect waitress service, although you do in Portugal.  Otherwise you get the service you pay for. I usually find that some places,even if you've paid the earth, have very surly waiterswaitresses.  A example of this:- paid £300 a night at the Bristol Hilton  and the evening waiter must have taken a degree in surly-ness.

  5. No. I never noticed it. I should though becuase I was a waitress at one point in time.
