  1. It simply means only you are responsible for your own actions.

There is no simple answer, as you've mentioned there is simply no choice but to rely on others, if you've to get through life. Then if you look around we are surrounded by something, shattering any notion that we are alone.

Even still it is solely you that has control of your self, it is solely you that decides the direction of your life, your self that makes decisions that affect your life. Some people with certainty believe no we have God. What God does is best.

So for simplicity NO. Life is not a selective reality meaning a lot variables simultaneously come together to create what we call life. In that sense the question in itself will be subjective, as answer will depend on the given scenario.

On the other hand it is your own decisions and choices that result in the outcome or the direction

your life takes. At the same time it is true that you can only play the cards you are dealt. Ultimately however you can argue you are the only one, you can completely trust, yet still we long to belong somewhere. We want partner, life, friends, kids etc.

So I am simply unable to firmly confirm that indeed all we have is ourselves, however I can say only I can determine my actions. So in a sense I am responsible for my own decisions and hence my life.

  2. No, God is always there for you.  If you would spend some time with him, you might feel differently.

  3. ...not true...i have my memories and experiences...

  4. Technically yes, because you can't always depend on other people.

  5. I think it's true.  I always think that people have to get along with themselves (whatever that may mean) and learn to love themselves because all they have is who they are.  No one will understand you better than yourself, no one will love you more than you love yourself.

Your question reminds me of this quote on loneliness.

"Loneliness is the human condition.  Cultivate it.  The way it tunnels into you allows your soul room to grow.  Never expect to outgrow loneliness.  Never hope to find people who will understand you, someone to fill that space.  An intelligent, sensitive person is the very great exception.  If you expect to find people who will understand you, you will grow murderous with disappointment.  The best you'll ever do is to understand yourself, know what it is that you want, and not let anyone or anything stand in your way." --White Oleander

  6. How do you know you even have yourself?

You and your phenomenological field just made you up.

When you're alone you are an amalgamation of every being that came before you and of every being that you have contacted. You are more than the sum of your parts, and that bit of you that makes you more, well that bit is made up of the experience you have with OTHERS.

    Yo - Addendum -

you see, hear, smell, touch, and taste the world. Then your senses send signals to your brain and your brain translates the sense information into whatever your experience tells you it should. Your combined experience filters the sense perceptions. Your combined experience comes from your genetic inheritance (your genes) and from the experience you have with other people.

SO your phenomenological field is the place between your sense/brain and the world. It's that place where your experience colors the world.

Your experience is other people, even when you are not in the presence of other people, they color your experience.

    you are never alone.

  7.    But what do we need...each other?

  8. Well ya really if you think about it you can't trust anyone but yourself!!

  9. That's what it comes down to.  Who do you trust to do exactly what they say they will if not yourself?

  10. I believe this is true. But, you also have God.

  11. Yes and your deeds. Because thats all that will be with you in your grave.
