The term framers of the constitution generally refers to the 57 members of the Constitutional Convention of 1787 which drafted the Constitution of the United States.  More specifically it refers to Madison, Hamilton, Jefferson and Franklin, who were the primary authors, especially Madison, who actually wrote the main draft.  Hamilton was the main propagandist for its adoption.  Jefferson contributed mainly stylistic effects, and Franklin some suggestions.

Firstly it is a who not a what.  The Framers are the men that meet to put to paper the constitution at liberty hall, this group included men from all 13 colonies.

The Farthers of the consitution are also refered to as the Farmers of the Constitution, Fathers of our country, or the forefathers and they are the polticial leaders who signed the Declaration of Independence or the United States Constitution, or otherwise participated in the American Revolution as leaders of the Patriots.
