I just started swimming this year and I suck. I've never won a medal or anything. I really feel like quitting, but my mom wants me to keep doing it. How can I convince her to let me quit?

  1. you're not going to get a medal when you first start swimming. it took 3 years for me to win a 16th place ribbon. that was when i was 8.

    only quitters quit

    -That 70s show...haha

  2. dont you dare quit please!!

when i started swimming i wasnt to good either!

i started swimming in meets more and practiced harrder and i went to the junior olympics and state championships so dont u dare quit becuase you culd end up becoing realllyyyy good like i did!

just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming!

    (:

  3. Have you learned new skills? Is your fitness improved? Are your times getting better? Have you made new friends?

If you are thinking of quitting, be prepared to discuss these issues with your mother -- they are more likely to motivate her than the fact that you haven't reached champion status with little effort.

  4. I wouldnt worry about winning any medals. And i think you should stick it out in my opinion, its a very good sport, and it just takes time to practice and get better and before you know it, you could be really good. I started swimming competitvely when i was 7, and ill tell you i hated it so much, i didnt like working hard, i never went to practice and it wasnt until i was 13 when i started to really like it, and ive gone through times i just want to quit, but i stuck it out, and now im faster than i thought id ever be, im now winning events, and i have great friends, and i think you should never give up. Im 15 now. You need to think about it, do you not like the sport because your not good at it? or its to hard? or do you really think that youd be happier in somthing else? And if you really want to quit, you need to talk to your mom, and ask her if you can try out another sport, and that your really unhappy continuing with swimming. If you really dont like it, you shouldnt have to keep doing somthing you dont like.

But you could also talk to your coach, it helps to sit down with them and talk about why you dont like it, and he/she could help you, i know that helped me so much.

Good luck. And i hoped i helped.

Also whenever i want to quit i always think of this quote

Dont give up, Dont ever give up.

    - Jimmy V.

    :)

  5. Dont give up! its not about winning medals its about having fun!
