  1. 0 to 60 in 7 seconds is acceptable, but what i would really look for is the reliability and safety of the car, not the performance power.

  2. In most circumstances,   it may be too fast for everyone.    In others,  it may be too slow,   but then maybe they should wait for a better gap in traffic before pulling out.

Hard acceleration uses the most fuel,  and puts the hardest strains on your car,   costing you money.      A   slow smooth acceleration uses less fuel and doesn't strain your drivertrain nearly as much.       This strain on the drivetrain is reflected on the crankshaft and bearings,  the transmission,   driveshaft and u-joints,   rear end gears  (did you see the NASCAR race at Martinsville?),  and excess tire wear.        This abuse of your car also can cost you money at trade-in or sale time in lower prices.

  3. It's not too fast. My first car at 16 was a twin turbo nissan 300ZX that do 0-60 in bout 4.5 since it had work done to it, but remember that with acceleration, goes gas mileage. I know teenagers don't think of that all the time, but with how gas is goin up don't go for HP right now.

  4. Yes it is fast enough for you.......................

  5. The fact a 16 year old is shopping for a car based on its' 0-60 speed, ..should be a clear sign as to what they intend on doing with it.

I also agree with the earlier answer regarding top speed.

When I was 16 my goal was to get 0 to top speed as fast as I could, as many times as I could.

Get your kid a car with a 4-cylinder reliable engine, and good gas mileage.  Speeding around won't be as fun, although they'll still do it, ..plus you/they won't be putting out as much for gas.

4-door, 4 cylinder, atleast 10 years old, and perhaps foreign - hehe.  Also Google the cars year/make/model and compare how many bads things it has with your other choices.  Many cars, like Pontiac DOHC 4-cylinders..  although 4 with good gas mileage..  are HORRIBLE cars, and can cost $1000+ to replace the cylinder heads which will HAVE TO be done eventually. Alot of cars have these faults, ..unfortionately many American from the 90s do.

  6. Not advisable, although it's for the personal thrill. I only advise such if you're going on an open motorway.

  7. This may be controversial, and I hated people saying this when I was young , but, there should be a limit on the H.P of a car dependant on age. I hate myself for saying this, but, most accidents are caused by speed or alcohol, which seems to be the preserve of the young!

  8. Acceleration doesn't matter nearly as much as top speed, it doesn't matter if it takes him 20 seconds to get to 60 mph, he's still going to speed.

  9. Thats pretty slow

  10. for a new driver i would get a really safe car and not care about the speed as long as you can trust the 16 year old to be mature and not speed
