I just bought an 01 cherokee that was sitting for a year. The only major thing wrong i have found is the steering will not return to center. It seems tight, if you turn the wheel either way it stick their until it is manually turned back to center. It is difficult to steer also like it is really stiff. Please help me!

I have replaced the steering stabilizer shock.

Greased all the available fittings.

  2. How dirty is the oil in the power steering pump reservoir? Burned smell or none?

Do you hear a hissing sound at full turn and engine on. Yes, pump probably OK..

I hate to tell you,  but probably the  power steering box is bad.

Auto Zone has them rebuilt and not hard to change.

    Good  Luck
