  1. Replace the Hydro boost unit, but check the P/S pump pressure. The power steering pump is an integral part of the system with brakes included; separated by valves and seals in the hydro boost system. I have had this problem a few times, and had to replace the Booster assembly to correct it.

  2. It sounds like a piece of the steering linkage may be worn beyond spec's and it is "moved" into a more spec like position when you hit the brakes but this locks that typically moving piece. Look at your ball joints and tie rod joints and any other place there's a grease fitting that lubes a moving joint or ball joint upper or lower or left or right.

The next thing to happen would be separation of that badly worn joint at the worst possible time.

    Good Luck!

  3. me thinks its time to call a wrecker and have it towed to the shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I've seen this when the power steering pump was empty or bad. the hydro-vac is operated by the fluid of the power steering. so that is where you need to concentrate if you know that the hydro is good. is there a belt on the pump?

IS THE BELT SLIPPING!!                                 GOOD LUCK!

                                         "BRILLIANT"!!!!
