03 ford expedition, when accelorating from stop to turn i am getting a vibration in the front end, help?

i have a 03 expedition, when accelorating from a stop in to a turn i get a wierd vibration like my tire is hitting the mud flap, but it is not. jacked up truck to check tie rods and there is a little play side to side but not top to bottom. the play side to side also turns steering linkage, so i don't know what is normal or if i need to check something else, please help.

  1. 2 questions: Does the steering wheel totally shimmy back and forth when turning...and...has the front steering been turned lock to lock with the engine off lately like would happen if you were replacing front brakes etc.?

    If so, air get's in the system and it will go away soon. It's a problem with Ford's but Ford plays dumb on that one since it always go's away.

Hit any curbs lately?  Best thing to do is get someone to turn the wheel both ways and have someone else really shake the front end.  You might be able to see some movement within the steering linkages.  Another way to see if it is an alignment issue is to go down a straight road and let go of the wheel and see if the front steers one direction or the other right away.  Because of the slope of the road you are liable to get a little bit of a right movement, but not a quick movement right.  If you do get the movement, then you have a steering issue.
