Question:

07' Saturn Aura for a 05' Jaguar X-type! Good Trade??

I bought my saturn aura last and I love it. However, i was kinda rushed into the decision of buying it because my 93' buick lesabre had completly given up on me and I NEEDED a new car.

I bought the saturn, I loved it, but I just didnt feel like a saturn "was for me" . I had been looking to trade it in for sometime now, and decided on an 08' buick enclave. My dealer, (who is a friend of the family) COMPLETELY contested it, saying my payments would be in the upper 700's 800's because of the trade in and so forth and so on.

So after looking around the dealership i settled upon a fully loaded, custom interior Jaguar X-type. Granted Im paying a little more for it than I would for the saturn but I'm guessing its worth it because of quality.

Was this a good trade? And how much , normally SHOULD a car payment for this car be. I want to see if I got taken throught the ringer. Thx!!

  1. You shouldn't expect to pay for than $300-$375 for the X-Type.  Its a $30,000 Jaguar.   Sure, the build quality is nice, but its the cheapest Jaguar (base 2.5 of course).  So like I said don't expect to pay more than the above for an already 3 year old car.

  2. its a great trade if you are friends with a mechanic.  Also, if you don;t mind taking a beating in resale value - X-types do no thold their value well.

Jaguars are notorious for maintenance issues - going all the way back to the XJS.  When Ford bought them, that did not improve.

keep the Saturn.  It may not have the flash of the Jag, but it wont have the repair bills either.  It willg et better mileage, and its 2 yrs newer.  Stay in the Saturn.

  3. Jag's look great but are one of the biggest "money pit" cars you can buy. If you have already done the deal...good luck. If not...keep the Saturn.

  4. I agree with the 1st answer. Keep the Saturn another two years & then think about moving into something else. Going down two years in model for a Jag with a long history of maintenance issues is a bad move.
