Question:

07 Sonata burns oil fast!?

I have an 2007 Hyundai Sonata. I have been burning oil since I got it, and at first I thought it was normal, that new cars burn oil faster. But then I went to Midas to get an oil change and they said legally they cant touch it because they dont want to be liable bc my car is burning oil. There are no leaks or antyhign like that.

Side note to my stupidity, I was adding a thing of oil every 2-3 weeks....so yeah, I honestly don't know c**p about cars. I'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow but any heads up knowledge would be great so I can be prepared...worst part is they wont give me a loaner while they do the work, so I've got to pay for a rental. Total BS.

  1. Well you are doing right by taking it back to the dealer.... but what is your question?

  2. More detail would be helpful.

Is there smoke coming out the tail pipe? If so what color?

Who said there were no leaks?

How did Midas know it was burning oil?

Not doubting you but are you saying you had this problem for over a year but showed no symptoms? How did you know it was burning oil?

Most dealers either have a 6 month/6000 mile or 12/12,000 warranty on service done. I think your best bet is to go back to the same dealer (your work invoice from Dec in hand) and tell them the problem has reoccurred or you have another engine issue. Stress that you have a "reoccurring" problem and Midus reaffirmed your fears of it, no good shop wants to hear that.

Your lucky the engine didn't seize up but usually if your burning that much oil there would be some symptoms. Matter of fact, it sounds like a bad oil drain plug.

Lemon Laws are different from state to state. You may want to look into it if you have this problem continues

    Good Luck!
