  1. No one will sacrifice their body that much with the money players make today. The game itself is not as speed oriented as it once was.

  2. Yes, it's possible because the game goes through various cycles. In a 50 or 75 years time it is quite possible even though you don't see 100 stolen bases a season at the present time.

  3. As the game is played today the record is safe.  I always break records into years times feats.  1400 is 70 steals for twenty years.  Not very likely when you think of it that way.

  4. No no one will ever brake his single season record or career record.  Henderson combined speeed with average and aggression.  Nobody is ever going to do it for as long as him either.  And sorry but saying stealing 120 bases for twelve years isn't that hard is stupid.  How many people have stolen 120 bases in a season let alone 12.  Today most speedy guys steal 60 bases tops due to increased scouting on guys, catchers with better arms, and pitchers with quicker deliveries and better pickoffs.

  5. No because managers want to protect their players and won't let them run as often.

  6. I say yes but the player needs to start stealing bases when he's called up and he needs to steal second and third many times and he needs to get at least 120 stolen bases per season for around 12 seasons which isn't too bad.

  7. While it's possible to break it (just like any other record), it will  not be broken if baseball continues to be played the way it is today.

The stolen base is simply not used as much as it used to be. I do get a bit of a chuckle when someone says "120 per year for 12 years" is a possibility. That would mean that person would have the second highest single season total as an average - be the equivalent of a hitter averaging 70 homers a year for 12 years. Players now lead the league with about 60 or so steals a year, and taking even 70 as an average it would take a player 20 years to get to 1400. And realistically a player will simply not have the speed at the age of 40 years old to steal 70 in a year.

Possible to break, but very unlikely anyone will.

  8. Reyes.
