I'm about to buy my new system and im looking to pound on a budget. I am either going to get 1 alpine type r in a ported box powered by the MRP M500 alpine amp or 2 15" kicker comps which handle 250 watts rms each with the same amp. Both will run about the same amount of money, and both will run at 500 watts rms. Which setup would be loudest?

  1. 2 15s

  2. Well personally i like the Type R's. I have two running at 200 watts over the rated RMS and it pounds like non other.

The Kickers would have more surface area and move more air possibly creating a louder sound but without a side by side comparison there is no way to know for sure which is louder.

You can't go wrong with either, but i would def think about the Type R (maybe see about a 15" Type R).

    Hope this helps.

  3. A pair of 15s would definatley pound  harder, as long as the amp is able to power the subs easily(not underpowering, whatever)

Dont listen to this guy about getting the smallest enclosure possible.  Small enclosures actually create "echoes" that disrupt the bass.  Look up the information for the 15s, use the middle of the recommended enclosure sizes. for example, my Fusion PP 12s require 1.18 to 1.34 for volume, that is an acceptable RANGE of enclosure size, however, rule of thumb says use the middle, so I built my enclosure at about 1.26.  If you have to use a smaller enclosure due to space limitation, slap some sound insulator in the enclosure to absorb some of the echoes.  it would also clean up the bass a bit, though you would lose a little bit of punch to your system.

There, Im done typing for the day, lol

  4. dude, most definetly get the two fifteens! ive got 2 l5 solo baric 12" in my single cab truck, and they nearly lift my windshield wipers off their hinges when i really get too pounding it, and kicker is the definite way to go. also, you lose hit with a ported box, so if i were you, id get a box built with the smallest dimensions and airspace possible, and trust me, YOU WILL ROCK THE HOUSE WITH THOSE TWO FIFTEENS, there is no doubt man.

    thats my adivce.
