1-2 day in paris . what to do/ see?

Question

going through paris in early july 1-2 days, not sure what we can do.

5 teenage girls and 2 parents??

any ideas welcome T.Y

I would definitely go to the Louvre, and at least see the Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa. If you can, take the train to Versailles. Its about an hour outside Paris but worth it. Montmartre is cool, there is a nice view of the rest of the city from there and the five teens with you might enjoy getting their portrait drawn, but make sure they understand how to haggle. Of course there is the Eiffel Tower, even if you don't go up it, it is pretty amazing just to stand under it. Be prepared to walk a lot.

There are a multitude of things to do in Paris in only  a few days. A good deal of the city is accessible by foot or choose a hop on hop off tourist bus. They stop at all the major attractions and you pay for a daily ticket that can be used unlimited times in that day. They also generally have a tour guide on them explaining the sights and are relatively reasonably priced.

Obviously there is the Louvre, a tad expensive though, the Eiffel Tower, heavily crowded, Notre Dame, the Arc de Triumph, and a multitude of other buildings in the area. I highly recommend taking the weight off of your feet in one of the many cafe's, try and head off the main roads into the narrow streets for not only the best value for money but the best pastries and coffee you will ever experience.

The city will be heaving with people so be wary of pick pockets especially around the tourist traps and remember your manners. The french are only arrogant if you are.

Go to the tourist spots mentioned by the person before me like the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Arc de Triumph. Those were the areas I visited when I went several years ago. Great thing is you can  see them all in one day.

Paris is a fairly compact city with the best public transportation system on Earth. Its very easy to get around.

Almost anyone who goes to the movies, reads books, or even just watches TV is going to recognize a lot of the usual tourist sights. (And you might try renting some movies set in paris before you go to get everyone reved up).

So plan to see most of the big sights if only to stroll by or thru them. That would include the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs Elysee, the Tuileries Gardens, the  Palais de Chaillot, Sacre Coeur and Montmartre, The Latin Quarter, the Pantheon, Invalides, and the Louvre.

Think about taking a sightseeing cruise on the Seine. The ones that leave from the Pont Neuf area of the Ile de la cite are cheap (ish) and take about an hour. Check out the website where you can tickets for a discount. http://www.vedettesdupontneuf.com/

If its a nice sunny day wander over to the Centre Pompidou and catch the street performers who congregate in the plaza in front. Musicians, dancers and comedians doing slapstick routines with audience volunteers.

And for an amusing evening try having dinner at Nos Ancetres Les Gaulois, a rather silly place where the staff dress up like ancient warriors and maidens from Gaul. http://www.nosancetreslesgaulois.com/UK/  Since its an all you can eat and all the wine you can drink place go  early  since the later hours can get a bit boisterous.

For something a bit more sophisticated, have dinner at Aux Trois Mailletz, my favorite hangout in Paris. From about 7:30 to 11:00 they feature some very talented young singers who do opera and French standards. Later in the evening the program tends to jazz.
