Ok, my daughter's doctor told me to give her 15 grams of a medication, which to me is a weight, correct? So, I know that 15 grms is converted into a 1/2 ounce, but how many teaspoons is this? I need to start giving her the meds and her doc is out of town and their office is not being very helpful. All they say is "He just says to give her 15 grams and that is all I can tell you..." ugh, anyone know?? I feel like an idiot!

  1. if it is a watery liquid (as opposed to like a syrup) then 15g is approx. 15mL and there are 5mL in a teaspoon so it sounds like she needs 3 teaspoons. steelfixer is right tho, ask a doctor of pharmacist.

  2. You are correct.  Grams is weight.  If the med is in a powder form that needs to be dissolved in water, your doc is an idiot to say give her 15 grams, unless you have a metric balance.  There are 454 grams in a pound, just to give you an idea. So 15 grams is 0.033 lbs or about 1/2 ounce.  So, if you can find a way to measure out 1/2 ounce of the powder, you can then dissolve it in a glass of water, and that will give you the 15 grams.

  3. Check with a medical pro, dont trust someone on here with your daughters health

  4. Ask your friendly pharmacist about it. Perhaps he can divide the powder into 15 gram sachets for you.

One rounded teaspoon is about 5 grams so you need to give three rounded teaspoons for 15 grams, Slightly more or slightly less should have no bad effect but ask your pharmacist. They are trained for this sort of question

  5. The above well thought out answers assume the entire weight of the medication is indeed active drug. The fact is that there simply is no universal conversion factor. There should be a place in the directions where it gives both reconstitution directions and the concentration of the final suspension, and you can do the math from there.
