  1. Hi:

    I hope this helps :

    1/2x( 12+8) =60   - the original equation

    .5(x)(20)=60  - decimalize a common faction and solving the addition

    .5x(20) * 1/20= 60*1 /20 - using the inverse of multiplication  to move a term to the other side

    .5x = 3 - multiplication of terms

    2*.5x= 3 *2 - using the inverse of division to move a term to the other side

    x= 6 the multiplication of terms

    prove that 1/2(x)20 =60  is true if x =6

    1/2x( 12+8) =60   - the original equation

    .5(6)(20)=60  - decimalize a common faction and solving the addition and substituting for x

    3*20= 60 -  completing  the multiplication of one the terms

    60= 60 -  completing the multiplication and checking the answers

    the answer is true;  if x = 6;  it checks

  2. Another way:

    1/2(x)(12+8)=60

    Multiply both sides by 2...

    (x)(12+8)=120

    Shorten....

    20x=120

    Divide both sides by 20....

    x=6

  3. not clear. Is it:

    (1/2)(x)(12+8)=60

    (1/2)(x)(20)=60

    (x)(10)=60

    x = 60/10 = 6
