  1. Presentation unclear.

    GUESS at :-

    (-1/2) y = 1/4

    - 2y = 1

    y = - 1 / 2

  2. -1/2y=1/4

        -y=1/2       (double both sides of the equation)

         y=-1/2      (swap signs of both sides of the equation)

  3. y=-1/2

    1/2 x 1/2=1/4 because 1x1=1 2x2=4.

    2 negatives make a positive. So there's the positive 1/4

  4. If your trying to solve the equation for y then divide both sides by -1/2.

    Therefore -1/2 cancels on the left hand side and y is left be itself.

    1/4 divide -1/2 = -1/2. So the answer is:

    y = -1/2

  5. You need to solve for y. In order to do that, you must get y by itself. To get y by itself, you need to divide by -1/2. To divide a fraction, you multiply it by its reciprocal [-2/1 which equals -2].

    So,

    (-2)(-1/2y) = (1/4)(-2)

    y = -2/4

    Simplify

    y = -1/2

    Hope that helps!

  6. well...y would be equal to -1/2

    (-1/2)x(-1/2) = 1/4

    i don't know if thats what it's asking though

  7. If you're finding y, then just divide by -1/2 on both sides to isolate y.

  8. y=-1/2
