  1. I'm not sure if I am reading it right, but this is how I read it:

    (1/6)y + (1/4)y = -1     (is this right??)

    2y + 3y = - 12

    5y = - 12

      y = - 12/5

    or is it this one??

    (1/6y) + (1/4y) = - 1

    (2/12y) + (3/12y) = - 1

    (5/12y) = - 1

    5 = - 12y

    y = - 5/12

    Hope this helps.

  2. Check this out:

    1/6 y + 1/4 y = -1

    (1/6+1/4)y = -1

    5/12 y = -1

    5/12 y / (5/12) = -1/(5/12)

    y = -2.4

    (Sorry, didn't convert it back in fraction)

  3. (4/24+6/24)y = - 1

    10/24 y = -1

    10y = -24

    y = -2.4
