  1. Within 11 hours after fertilization, the egg produced by the female (oocyte) creates a polar body with excess chromosomes.  When this egg and the sperm nucleus fuse, a zygote is formed.

    For the next three days or so, the zygote divides over and over again, and moves from the fallopian tube to the uterus.

    On about the fifth or sixth day, the zygote has become what is known as a blastocyst and attaches itself the uterus wall. Hormones secreted  ( hCG, Progesterone) help to encourage growth of the blastocyst and increase bloodflow to the uterus
