2. Could someone also compare the growth of a cumulonimbus cloud to the eruption of a volcano? What causes the vertical motion in each case?

  1. 1) Cumulus clouds are the puffy ones that people usually draw and see when they look up. They remind some people of cotton balls. Stratus clouds are the flat ones that take up the whole sky and are usually the ones you see when it's raining and such.
