In 2007 US exported $135 million dollars of stuff to Mexico and imported $213 million. You can get see that gap has gradually increased. Most estimated a larger gap following NAFTA, but the emergence of China has hurt the Mexican economy. The low wages in China have more than offset the low transportation costs Mexico offers. Imports from China have nearly tripled from 1999 to $321 millions.
