i hold two passports. my first one belongs to the country where i was born and the second belongs to where i currently live. on the first i have a valid USA visa,but the passport just expired,according to my embassy it can only be renewed back at home and in person. i am working and unable to travel back home and stay there for few weeks. the problem is i have a business trip to the US in a month ,can . us embassy transfer my visa into my other passport?

is there a website for fqa regarding such matters?

  1. The answer is still "No".  You need a new visa in your other passport.  Procedurally, you would need to re-apply for what is essentially a replacement visa.


  2. An alien can present two passports, one, which fulfills the visa requirement and the other the passport requirement. The alien's nationality, as indicated in the new passport, must be the same as that shown in the passport bearing the visa stamp.

    So, if your expired passport shows your nationality to be the same as what is in your valid passport, you're all right, but if one passport says you're Greek, for example, and the other passport says you're Dutch, you cannot use both passports at the same time.

    This is an example how the U.S. does not support dual nationality. You could ask the visa office to cancel the valid visa in the expired passport and place a valid visa in the valid passport.

    You cannot have two valid visas in the same classification concurrently.
