  1. I prefer to water my gardens (both flower and veggie) a couple of hours before sundown but after the sun is not as hot as in the middle of the afternoon.  This gives the plants a chance to rebound and soak up the water before it gets hot the next day.  It also gives them a chance to dry off before the cooler night temps.  Some plants will mildew if you water them too late in the evening and they don't have a chance to dry the leaves before nightfall.

  2. Water in early morning, at or soon after daybreak, so the leaves can dry before the heat of the day.  Wet leaves invite fungus.   Watering early also saves water otherwise lost to evaporation.

If you install drip irrigation you can water most anytime.  It won't wet the leaves and water goes to the root zone where it belongs.

  3. at night so all the water is absorbed.

  4. Either early morning or late evening, if humidity is high plants may mildew if they dont get a chance to dry off and stay wet all night.

  5. Morning is best.  Watering just before sunset is not recommended as the plant leaves don't have a chance to dry out.  The moisture and the cooler evening temps make perfect conditions for bacterial and fungal problems to develop.  If you must water later in the day, do it 3-4 hours before sunset so the leaves have a chance to dry.  When watering, don't water overhead.  Direct the water at the roots of the plant instead.  Happy gardening!

  6. If you want healthy plants then the best time to water them is in the morning between 6 and 10 am.  Any later and the sun undermines what youve done and if you water in the evening your plants can get diseases on them and if they go into the night wet they can rot.
