1 inch wide strip faded on my laptop screen today, ideas of why?

There is about a 1 inch wide strip that has faded on my laptop screen. however if u put the mouse over this 1 inch strip on my screen it does not fade the mouse out at all. so i was curious if u thought this was the lcd screen, maybe a video card, or possibly the motherboard. any help or advice is much appreciated. thanks!

That seems like a screen issue and not the video card. The mere fact that you can still see your mouse on that part suggests that it is the screen.

Motherboard has nothing to do with video.
