To properly lighten dark hair like yours, you need to use a two-step process:  stripping your hair of it's natural color, then coloring it blond.  

THIS IS NOT SOMETHING YOU SHOULD EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING YOURSELF! GO TO A PROFESSIONAL!

And don't be surprised if you look awful.  Most people with dark hair don't have the coloring to pull off blond.  Look at Cher. And it will ruin the texture of your hair.

If you use coloring from a box, you will just end up with brassing, ugly-colored hair.  

Consider going a few shade lighter than your own, in a semi-permanent first, in case it's awful.  Or going red.

Best thing to accept the color god gave you and work with that.

If your hair is dark it will go a red colour not blonde.  You would need a pre lightener to became a blonde.
