1 minute delay between windows xp splash screen...

i experiencing a problem when starting up my computer. There is quite a delay between the splash screen and the log on screen. During that time the screen is just blank. The system is quite good. XP athlon 1500+, 2GB ram and works fast after I go through the log on. Please help
