Evaluate Each Expression

5y - x for x = 8 and y = -11

3x + 5y + z for x = 18, y= 9, and z = 4

8x + 4y - 2z for x = 5, y = 17, and z = -8

-y for y = 4.

Can you please show me how to do these because this stuff is frustrating. I might put sum more on here.

  1. its actually easier than it looks. you have (for the first problem)...

    x= 8

    y= -11

    and your problem is 5y- x.

    All you need to do is substitute your y and x into the problem. you should end up with a problem that looks like this...

    5(-11) - (8)

    all you have to do is put the numbers into the place with their corresponding letters. the rest of the problem should be a piece of cake ;)

    the other problems are just the same. substitute x, y, and z, into all the places in your problem. and solve!

    Hope this helps!!!

  2. 5y-x for x=8 and y= -11       plug in those #'s 8 for x and -11 for y

    5(-11)-8 = -55-8= -63

    3x + 5y + z       x=18  y=9  and z=4    3(18) +5(9) + 4

                                                             54     + 45  +4=103

    And so on. Hope this helps

  3. 5y-x

    5(8)-11

    40-11  and do the rest
