  2. What do you mean? What it would cost?

    Without insurance for a simple, uncomplicated labor and delivery, and neither mom nor baby needing special care, is an easy $20,000. There's fees for the hospital itself, for mom's OB, the pediatrician that examines the baby daily, any anesthesia for mom - like an epidural, and any labs performed on either mom or baby. (If either needs any kind of special care,that number will rise exponentially.)

    With insurance, it's either copays or deductible/co-insurance, so it'd be less than $5000.
