I found out I was pregnant yesterday with a positive blood test! Well I went to the hospital last night because I been having some bleeding since last week and I wanted to make sure everything is alright! I was just spotting and thats all.. well last night the blood test they did on me turned out to be negative.. they told me I either could had a miscarriage, was not pregnant at all, or I am still could be pregnant and check in a couple of days! What is your opinion..? How could you have 1 positive that mornining and negative that night? I still feel pregnant... the only time I was cramping was after he pushed against my stomach after he did a pelvic exam and I bled a lil heavier for an hour but not enough to get on a pad! What is your opinion?

  1. My wife had a false negative. The doctor explained to us that it's possible to have false negatives, because they test for the presence of hormones, and the sample they got didn't have any, but it doesn't mean they aren't there. You can't have a false positive though, if the test says the hormones are there, then they're there. I don't know if you had a miscarriage, but if you did, the test would still show hormones. I'm thinking you should disregard this last test, do a new one and act as if you're pregnant till you get confirmation otherwise.

    Good luck

  2. check in a couple of days. early in the pregnancy hormone levels can fluctuate, so it's possible that you're (still) pregnant. Wait til Friday, have an other test and if the bleeding still hasn't stopped then, have that checked out too, just to be on the safe side.

    Good luck!

  3. Go get one more at the doctors to be sure. You very well could have miscarried. I hope not though. See your doctor to be sure.

  4. It most likely you were never pg at all...sometimes there could be a false postive even in blood tests!!!!

  5. Here is my opinion as a woman who has suffered a miscarriage herself.

First off, I was told by my doctor that there is no such thing as a 'false positive' only a 'false negative'. There are hormones in your body that are present only when you are pregnant. Those are the hormones that trigger the positive on a pregnancy test. So chances are, you are/were pregnant.

Now heres the tricky part. When I suffered my miscarriage back in November I was a little over 3 months pregnant. It happened on a Saturday and it was obvious to me by the bleeding and cramping that I was miscarrying. The ER told me there was noting that they could do at that point so I just stayed home and passed my baby in the privacy of my own home.

When I went in to the doctor the following monday the first thing that they did was take a urine pregnancy test. Even though it was clear at that point that I had lost my baby, my pregnancy test still turned up positive because of the hormones in my system. An ultrasound however proved that I wasn't.

Weekly follow-up visits and blood tests to moniter my hormones slowly showed the pregnancy hormones going down in my body. But that was over several weeks time.

As far as you are concerned I have no idea. It seems very odd to me that you would test Positive and then negative in the same day. Unfortunately even taking a OTC pregnancy test at this point might not give you a clear reading because as I said before if you miscarried recently the hormones might still be present in your system.

Just relax and take it easy the next few days. Try not to stress yourself out too much and be prepared for anything. Losing a baby... even if you are not too far a long is still a very sad and painful experience. God bless and best of luck.

  6. I would have the first place that took the test fax you the results or the hospital the results and recheck in a couple of days. That may indicate a miscarriage, yes...but don't fret yet.
