  1. Back when there were typesetters, the spacing for each letter was the same, instead of just taking up the needed amount of space for each individual letter, so  2 spaces were required after the period to make it clear where the sentences ended. With computers, the spacing is specific to each letter, so it is no longer required to double space. It took me a really long time to get over the 2 space thing. It was drilled into my head as a student, but in college, I was an English major and was finally broke of the habit.

  2. Yes, this is the way that I learned about 15 years ago in a word processing class I took.

However, I notice many people do one after the period and one after the comma.

    I think both are acceptable.

  3. Yes, you are correct.

The extra space allows the eye to more easily separate sentences.

    Good luck!

  4. The two spaces after the period is now becoming outdated. One space after punctuation is widely accepted.

  5. I have always done it that way.  Since high school and I got out of high school in 1963.

  6. The new way of word processing is 1 after comma and 1 after period.

The old way was one after comma, two after period.

  7. The way that everybody that I know does it is 1 space after a comma, and one space after a period. Hope I helped.
