My sister-in-law told me to add 1 tsp to 1 gallon of paint to cut the odor. Is this true?

  1. yeah, I use my favorite smell, Beer.   Nothing like the smell of a brewery.  Unless it is a coffee house.   For that hospital effect, you could dump in some bleach - that'll bore a hole into your brain constantly snorting up that smell....perfume??give a guy a break.

Latex paint has never smelled bad (unless the paint has gone mouldy) but you would see the black mold growing on the paint in the can.   For odors it has been either chalky or peachy....and only really strongest when it is being applied....not after it has dried.

  2. Adding anything to paint is going to make "some sort" of change in it. Purchase a low or no VOC paint.

  3. You don't say what she told you to add. Most people add vanilla extract to reduce the odor. However with todays latex paints the odor is not as bad as it use to be and once dry the odor subsides quickly.

  4. You can add 2-3 drops of vanilla extract. Don't add more. This should make it a little easier to deal with. Opening the windows will also help.

  5. Throwing in a teaspoon of what...or do you just throw in a the actual teaspoon?  If the later is true would it work for any measuring device or just those that measure volume?  ;)
