  1. sounds like the baby rabbit has fly strike.  Don't put flea powder on it diluted or not.  Take it to the vets as soon as possible.  Fly strike can kill it especially with it being so young.

If you can put the hutch with all the rabbits inside till you get  the baby rabbit sorted out. In a garage or even in the house.  PLEASE PLEASE TAKE THE BABY ONE TO THE VETS ASAP!!!

It could die if you don't

    Good Luck

  2. take the baby to a vet and take the mother to just in case.

  3. You must change the cage often. Use gloves when moving the babies around so they don't have your scent on them. I think the open wounds will require alcohol from a first aid kit. How soon can you get a vet to visit you?

  4. You should consult a vet rather than asking online. Problems such as you have had can be very bad for rabbits, and should be dealt with quickly and properly.

  5. Also you can buy some Blue cream at Atwoods or other Feed & Seed which prevents flies from entering wounds.

You might also want to buy a fly catcher bag.

  6. Get to a vets!

Mummy rabbits aren't that bad with the whole 'rejecting' thing. You can handle them pretty easily from birth as long as you make sure Mum is OK with it and that they are still with her at feed time.

Clean out the hutch as best you can, stick up fly strips. Make sure any babies with dirt or poo on them are cleaned up so they don't attract the flies. Mix 1 gal of water with about 2 or 3 drops of vanilla, you can spray this around the hutch, put it in their water and spray Mum with it too, and maybe put some on the babies but in a more diluted formula. Flies hate the smell of vanilla and its safe for rabbits.

  7. as you know, keeping the cage & bedding clean is paramount.  Also using flystrike on mother.

To prevent any more flies getting into cage through the wire mesh, tack some muslim or other fine material really tightly over the outside of cage front.  This will stop any more flies getting in but still allow fresh air to get through.

Its not sounding good for the poor wee baby, an open wound needs vet treatment and antibiotics, especially if its had maggots in it.  You will need to check over all buns daily to make sure your on top of the problem.  Go see the vet and get some qualified advice.

  8. Take the one with the wound out and hand rear it so the others don't get infected. You can spray flea spray on the outside of the hutch and put fly tape around the edge of the hutch and on the doors.

  9. Baby bunnies can die very easily,i am not sure if it will survive. :( But there's always a chance! Use some antiseptic lotion diluted down considerably (if you have some) And with some toilet paper or cotton wool gently wipe it on the infected areas with this, then with another piece of Toilet paper/cotton wool dunk it in Luke warm water then squeeze the excess water from the paper/wool and gently wash off the antiseptic lotion And then dry it off with more toilet paper/cotton wool. And then finally apply the wound powder. You will also need to find something to repel the flies, i reccomenend Tree Tree oil or Citronella oil or lavender oil. If you don't have any antiseptic lotion, then use a gentle soap. Hope this helps and the baby bunny gets better!!
