  1. Have a theme party with a cute pinata for her birthday, check here for more ideas http://www.pinatas.com/First_Birthday_Pa...

  2. get a small cake 4 the baby and let her play alot til tired

  3. Do lady bugs, polkadots, poodles, or something like that. Why don't you have just you and her family come over? It's not like she cares. I'm guessing she cannot talk that well and doesn't know any friends.

  4. A BBQ

  5. Sorry to hear that the family is not appreciating their Granddaughter!!!  What a loss for them!  In any event, by all means celebrate with "heart family" her special day!  Here are some ideas:

    1.  Have a barbecue.  Each friend can contribute something to the potluck, while you provide the main course and drinks.  Dessert will be cake or cupcakes.

    2.  Keep it simple.  At one, baby's are still into basics and don't distinguish whether they're having a spcial birthday or not.  One year old's enjoy getting to know one another, crawling around, banging on pots and pans, etc.  Arrange for her "friends" to have well-supervised playtime together.

    3.  For your adult friends, create party favors to thank them for coming.  In each bag, you might include a framed photo of your daughter, gift cards, special chocolate treats etc.

    4.  If you are serving alcohol, make sure that you aren't sending guests home drunk.  Have a signature punch that's light, fruity, with a little kick and make sure that there is plenty of food.  Also, serve lots of sodas and bottled waters.

    5.  Take lots of pictures.  You can purchase those gift pack of disposable cameras that you can put out for guests to capture special moments from the party.  Afterwards, they give you the cameras so that the film can be developed.

  6. Her grandparents will be sorry! ...  My granddaughter will be 1 in July, and her brother is 4, and sister is 2-1/2...so we've had alot of first birthdays lately! ...  My daughter always orders a small cake, just for the birthday baby-and takes lots of photos!  She has a BBQ buffet for us too, but nothing terribly elaborate.  Hamburgers & hot dogs; various salads; fruit & veggie/dip platters......  She's too young for organized activities, but a small wading pool and some bath toys would be fun for her (and any other toddlers).  Put some folding chairs around the pool for the moms to sit in ....

  7. When I have had a baby party for my children, I've had a lot of success bringing out multiples of simple things to encourage them to play together.

For one year old, you might try getting 5-7 inexpensive play balls that they can play with on the floor together.  Or toys that move.  My mother-in-law has gathered farm animals toys that move and make noise.  It is just so fun to see how the little ones react to things like that!

For ideas on what to eat, you might consider cupcakes for the little ones, and Raspberry Summercake (super-easy!  see link below!) for the adults.  Small containers of applesauce or something they can handle, like string cheese, are ideas if you want something a little 'nutritious'.

As for party givaways, I always appreciate something small, like a book or coloring book rather than a bag of cheap "Made in China" toys the kids are going to break or choke on.  Go to your local discount store, and you should be able to find something inexpensive and age-appropriate.

Good luck!  And Happy Birthday to your daughter!

  8. FOR A SMALL PARTY YOU CAN HAVE THE KIDS FAVORITE CHARACTER AND THAT COULD BE THE THEME. THATS WHAT WE DID MY MY SISTERS B-DAY. IT FUN AND INEXPENSIVE. BECAUSE THE CHARACTER STUFF COMES IN A SET FROM LIKE PARTY CITY. ITS FUN, EASY AND EVERYONE WILL LOVE IT AND THINK IT'S TOTALLY ADORABLE.

  9. The first thing is to keep the event down to a short time scale, and choose some theme for your party. I found this site very interesting for birthdays http://www.partystuffonline.co.uk

  10. 1st birthdays were always done at home with close family and friends. We always had a small cake just for baby, and lots of pictures and a video camera for the cake smashing. (And lots of paper towels)

Babies that age can get overwhelmed by big groups and you dont' want the 1st birthday pictures witha  crying birthday baby.

In my younges son's party we had about 3 other kids and I got plastic disposible sippy cups (as favor bags) and put an age appropriate toy in there (I don't remember what) I also got some mylar balloons for the kids and we had imperial rice, soda and cake. It was a blast.

  11. For my kids 1st birthday we invited---Grandparents, Godparents, & immediate family only.

We took family pictures, it was great.

We waited until they were school age before having a few of their  friends over.....we also did the cucake & juice party in the classroom.
