we tok him as an emergency appointment on sunday evening to the vet. he came home hunched up and limping very badly, with bloodu dripping from his p***s. the vet feels he has a very severe cystitis. hes got antibiotics and a bladder wall relaxant treatment, . hes eating and drinking, he sjust had a poo, and his blood in his pee seems to be settling although he is urinating all over the place...im wondering if someone has deliberately kicked him as opposed to being an infection...he wont go near the outside, and is very miserable. any ideas or has anyone else had a cat which has this problem ?/ thanks

  1. I agree with Spam. Please make sure that your cat has been tested for Struvite crystals. My cat has it and he almost died before we realized what was going on with him. The symptoms can be very similar and could be mistaken for a cystitis. Male cats are more likely to have crystals than a infection. If he does have crystals he will have to be on a special diet for the rest of his life to keep him free of problems.  As long as the cat continues to urinate and the urine is clearing up I think your cat is on the road to recovery. I would take him back for a follow up at the vets to see if he needs anymore antibiotics. I do not think anyone has kicked him it just sounds more internal. If you have ever had a UTI then you can understand just how miserable the cat is. I have and I do. Hope kitty is feeling better in a few days. Keep on top of it and he will be OK. Good luck

  2. smart cat for not wanting to go outside.  just follow your vets advice and if you don't see any improvment by friday call them again

  3. Hopefully, no one has deliberately abused your kitty, however, I agree with RN and Spam in that you should get your kitty checked for struvite crystals.  My FMIL's cat had the same symptoms as you describe your cat as having and he had struvite crystals.  Poor little guy had to spend over week in the hospital after being operated on and is now on a RX diet for life (which he absoluety hates).  That can make a cat very miserable (seeing as it can lead to death) and he is probably in a lot of pain.

  4. I love cats, Ive got 2, Father and Son. The Mother decided to pack her backs and go! Nevertheless They seem to cope well.

My neighbours has a few kittens, If anyone is interested in getting kittens. (BIRMINGHAM (UK) AREA ONLY) then contact me.

They are ginger and light brown and assorted. None are black and white. and they all have blue eyes. 3 Left btw, so you better respond fast.

  5. Cystitis is bad news for a male cat particularly.

They are in a lot of pain and will be very miserable.

Try to encourage him to drink plenty  by adding some water to his cat food.  He will be weeing everywhere since he can't hold on it.

  6. got to vets a blood and urine test will solve ur problem some cats are prone to stones and crystals we have cats and dogs that come in on special food for this problem,

                   Go 2 Vets please

  7. The best way is hospitalized for him.

    I can't see anymore.

We can do nothing to him.

  8. i feel terrible for your cat. your probably right. it might not want to go outside because someone did something to it. thats why when i let my cats out  i watch them and dont let them go out too far.

  9. i have a male cat and he gets struvite crystals(like kidney stones) if he doesn't have his prescribed food.its very common in male cats.they can't break down the protiens in the food and crystals form.this causes him to get stressed, pee everywhere and when its really bad he bleeds.it's possible though that someone has hurt him there are some sick b****rds about.keep an eye on him and if your not sure take him back after a couple of days.

  10. If someone had kicked him it would have shown up in an exam of the muscles. Sounds like it most likely is cystitis. However dont rule out bladder stones either. These are fairly easy problems to remedy.

One of the things Ive used is cranberry juice (pure organic, no corn syrup) in the water for the crystals and/or bacteria that are causing the problem. Also, dandelion helps with most urinary problems in general. Vitamin C will help move things along more quickly and boost the immune system. Potasium iodide (liquid, from health food store) can help soften stonesKeep him inside while he heals. Make sure he has some greens to chomp on if he gets the urge.

Avoid dehydration and ensure your pet has easy access to fresh water in a regularly cleaned bowl. Filtered or bottled water is preferable to chlorinated or fluorinated water.

Your pet needs easy access to a place where he can urinate whenever he needs to. "Holding it in" for long periods of time can lead to chronic bladder problems.

Ensure your pet is eating a balanced, high quality diet with plenty of raw and unprocessed food (preferably organic). Avoid dried foods as much as possible and do not give your pet anything containing sugar.

Avoid exposure to toxins and chemicals as much as possible including pesticides, herbicides, commercial flea collars, flea powder, insecticides and second-hand cigarette smoke.
