I have a 10 gallon tank. I've been noticing that the water level keep decreasing about 1 gallon a week. Is there a reason why that happens? And is it normal? I haven't been noticing it before.

Thank you for your time.

  1. My 20 gallon tank does this too. Mines tropical community/planted and it loses alot of water. Just evaporation, perfectly normal. Also check for leaks

  2. its probably just evaporating

  3. get a 10 gallon tank lid with lights.   i have 2 tanks.  one has a lid that came with it, adn the other doesnt.  the one with a lid has been full for almost 2 weeks.  the other decreeses about a gal qa week like you said and its very annoying.  i should probably go get another tank lid thing.   it would help with the water and lighting bills for the tanks

  4. Has the temperature outside and temperature in your house gone up lately?

Do you have a lid on your tank?

Hot temperatures will evaporate your water rapidly and not having a lid will do the same,

    Hope this helped!

  5. If you don't have a lid that's likely the problem. My 10 Gal has a lid and I lose very little water to evaporation. That's probably it.

  6. the water's evaporating. just keep poring water back in the tank. the water level decreasing is normal, even if the tank has a lid (and if u have one of those tanks that comes with a lid, then yes, it can evaporate, because the lid has holes).

  7. The most likely reason is that it is a evaporating, this can be slowed down by using a lid on the tank. This is perfectly normal, the water should be replaced during your weekly cleaning.

  8. it's normal. assuming you live in america, it's summer over there at the moment, so more water will be evaporating than in winter. if you want to slow the rate of evaporation, get a condensation tray and/or don't have the light on for as long as you normally would. i have noticed with my 9g tank that the light generates quite a bit of heat and the hood traps it in. it keeps the atmosphere warm and the water evaporates wuite fast. i have an open top 18g and it evaporates about 9 litres (about 2 and a half gallons) every week. and i'm in winter at the moment! haha.

    good luck :)

  9. Just evaporating.

In our 29 Gallon we lose a half gallon a day from it and we have a full hood.

    >_<

    It's pretty frustrating.
