Fewer stadiums are as popular and well known as the one in Catalonia. Camp Nou is host to one of the greatest football clubs, Barcelona and has seen some of the world's all time greats play their trade there.
The stadium was built in 1957 as a symbol of Catalan's nationalism. It epitomises what Catalonians are about. It’s their identity. Since its opening, the stadium has been the home of FC Barcelona. The club has been at the forefront of European football and
is one of the Europe’s most feared teams, especially when playing in this magnificent arena. Barcelona have won 13 league titles, 12 Copa del Rey and 3 European Cups.
Its construction is such that the noise levels reach incredible levels but the shape isn’t wide, which is generally the usual one; instead its cup like shape makes an intimidating atmosphere inside.
There are plans to increase the capacity at Camp Nou. It has been done previously for various events, such as the World Cup 1982, however the official capacity has stayed the same. It is expected that Barcelona will extend it and increase the official capacity
to about 120,000, which would make it the 2nd biggest football arena in the World.
Norman Foster, the man behind the architectural master class of New Wembley is believed to have been appointed to add his flair to the project and make Camp Nou the biggest and the most beautiful stadium in the World. The future of Barcelona looks safe and
surely, we can expect to see Camp Nou revamped and become one of the best stadiums in the World.
