  1. It's about something that was but no longer is.  Theirs was an all-consuming love; one that lacked breathing room bc it was so powerful and possessive.  He thought he needed freedom from it because he was frightened of the power it had over him.  But after he left her, he quickly learned the downside of freedom...the air was sour without her sweet aura in it...and he could not stop thinking of her or loving her...just as he could not stop breathing.  Diary writing only made her memories linger, and it was painful for him, so he left the diary by a window and tried to forget about it.  The sun was its only viewer, and it gave the pages a yellowish tint, yellow for age and yellow for melancholy.  Of course, over time the wound stopped bleeding, but there was a scar.  And every time he thought upon the scar, with a pang of wisdom he realized the blunder in their love, but more importantly, he understood its youthful and innocent beauty, even to the point where he could smile upon it with nostalgia.

Sounds kind of like a young love lost, where reality reveals the idealism of former promises and makes what once seemed so pure and powerful to two young lovers suddenly seem more sour and trivial.  It's a very cynical poem, and I would guess written by a wise older man who has experienced the pain, and still remembers it from time to time.  It's beautiful.

And of course it could be interpreted in many other ways.
