America uses 21 million barrels a day, so IF we did that how long could we go without using any other countries oil? Also do you think that would be a good idea, is it worth it?

If we used it for awhile, do you think things would settle down so once that ran out we could go back to about $2.00 a gallon?

  1. We have been drilling and pumping oil up here in Alaska since 1977. The wildlife are just fine with the pipeline. We don't have enough oil to satisfy the needs and wants of the USA. Gas today was $4.06/gal.

  2. Guess what. We ARE drilling in Alaska. Where do you think the oil in Prince William Sound came from? The problem is that the oil companies are after a quick buck and don't care about what they do to the ANWR to get it. If they were really worried about the supply of oil, they'd be tapping the oil shales and sands.

  3. I m against drilling for oil off the California, Florida coast and in the Gulf Of Mexico, AND in Alaska!

    AND>>>>>   I will FIGHT against it!~

drilling destroys the environment, kills the wildlife, and Big OIL executives get rich and they don't share their wealth

  4. 2 ITEMS= WATER IN SOME PLASTIC BOTTLES HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN BAD TASTE AND 2 THE PLASTIC BOTTLES ARE MADE FROM OIL = PLASTIC BOTTLES 4 FEET HIGH =15 FEET LONG=5 OR 6 FEET WIDE= ABOUT 30 BARRELS OF OIL WAS SHOWN ON T.V. NEWS BY SEATTLE AND THEIR DISCONTINUEING PLASTIC BOTTLES IN SEATTLE, AT LEAST THIS APPROXIMATELY WHAT THEY SAY AND THE BAD WATER FROM OTHER NEWS SOURCES. SO DELETE ANYTHING IN PLASTIC BOTTLES OR PAY HIGH GAS PRICES.

  5. It's not like we stop using all other sources of oil and take ONLY from ANWR.  ANWR has enough oil to supply Massachusetts for well over 100 years.

    Yes it's worth it.

  6. New oil fields take many years to start producing oil, especially in harsh climates like ANWR or somewhere under 10,000 feet of ocean.  Since the market wouldn't see this oil for probably at least a decade, oil prices wouldn't see any decline until then.

A much more immediate solution to lower the price of oil is to start conserving.  Don't make unnecessary car trips if you don't have to.  Walk or bike to the corner store instead of driving.  Buy a highly efficient car the next time you're ready to purchase a different car.  Things like this will help lower the price of gas a lot faster than drilling for more oil.

P.S.  In a world of peak oil, we're probalby not going to see $2.00 gas again in our lifetimes.

  7. The problem, especially in North America, is not oil.  There is no shortage of accessable oil.  The problem is that there are so few refineries to process it.  The oil companies know that if they build more refineries there would be more (and cheaper) gas, so they won't do it.

  8. Production cost per barrel if we started drilling in ANWAR right now would be approximately $56 per barrel compared to todays closing cost of nearly $130 per barrel. Costs for drilling off California, Gulf of Mexico and New Jersey about $63 per barrel.

And there is close to 400 BILLION barrels of oil that are reachable here in the US.

I miss paying 38.9 cents per gallon.

  9. yeah and there's 500 billion in the Bakken formation.

We just gotta find a way to get it out...

yeah good luck on the 2.00 a gallon.  Someone will find a way to gouge you to at LEAST what we're paying now.

  10. i think we should all go back to riding horse and buggies.  We will NEVER see gas that low again. i remember when i was 10 years old my family was taking a trip to south carolina and we saw gas for 99 cents. my dad said take a good look because you will never see it that price again and he was right.

  11. We would have it now if we had started 10 years ago. Back then we were told it would be 10 years before we'd get it.

Other countries are drilling, now, in our offshore waters. We are being duped.
