10 feet by 10 yard with all weeds. whats an easy do it yourself fix?

my back yard is outta control. no hope for the weeds - there's prolly 3 strands of grass left. i don't have a fence so i can't re do the grass cuz every where is covered in weeds.

what can i do to fix that? or another option?

Get some Clear plastic sheeting. 4mil or 6mil thick.

Lay it over the area of weeds, Weight it down along edges so it won't blow off.

The sun will shine through the plastic and bake everything under it, it will then proceed to sterilize the soil making it clear off weeds,grass,everything will die.

You can then sew new grass seed in the area.

It works. and no chemicals are needed.

i was thinking you just remove about 5 inches deep of the soil in your backyard. and then refill it and add new grass.. there shouldn't be any weeds growing in your yard unless pollen coming from other yards in your neighbourhood.

If you use the black plastic sheet method you will need to leave e the plastic in place for one whole season and start fresh next spring.

This is my best suggestion.

First, use round up on the entire mess.

Then roto-till or hand pitchfork the entire area.

use a large steel rake to rake it smooth.

put down grub-X or other grub killer.

LAY SOD!

Water 15 minutes daily.

  The reason I am suggesting SOD instead of grass seed is that seed won't do well this time of year, you need to wait until fall.  Also seed might be more susceptible to round up than sod, although not likely, but why be unsure, roll out sod and water!

There are a lot of grass seed/weeder mixtures that you can spread on your lawn... they will kill the weeds and put down new grass seed....

It is worth a try.

Get rid of the weeds first. Get you some Weed-B-Gone and spray. Or some atrazine. You can get either from Lowes.

Then you pretty much have put some kind of grass going. You can get some sod and break it into smaller pieces and spread them out. Or you can get some seed. Mix you some fertilizer and horse manure and spread it out.

Once you get some grass started then you can work on keeping the weeds out.

Its not going to work immediatley. Its going to take some time.

Unless you can afford to lay centipede sod over the whole area.

Start by mowing the weeds down so you aren't completely surrounded and start weeding.  Then you can come up with a plan.

If you'd like to start over, put plastic over the lawn for several weeks to kill everything beneath it.  Then either resew grass seed or put down sod.  If you choose to chemically kill the weeds, you may want to then rake up the debris throughly after the weeds have died.

buy or rent a rotto tiller....till it all in...wait about two weeks and pull as they emerge...or cover with black plastic sheeting...then plant what you want.
