Question:

10 month old still isn't sleeping through the night?

My was breastfed exclusively for 6 months; he is now eating a variety of solids and regular table food. He has a great appetite and eats a lot during the day, and may nurse one or two times during the day as well. At night, though, he still wakes up as many as four times to nurse! I think it is a comfort thing, and I want to get him to sleep through the night--how do I do this without breaking his little heart and making him feel insecure?

  1. My little boy didn't sleep through the night for a year.  You can start getting him to wake less and gradually not at all by doing the following.

    1.  Don't go right in when he cries.  He may just be adjusting and will fall back asleep quickly if you let him cry for a couple minutes.

    2.  Send someone else in to comfort him.  If he takes a binky, just send your hubby or someone besides you in to give him his binky and calm him for a second.  He doesn't expect to be nursed by anyone but you.  After a night or two, his body will learn that he does not eat 4 times a night and he will just keep sleeping.

    3.  Make sure he is not napping too frequently during the day.  By this age, two naps should be plenty.  This should help him use the night for deep sleep.

Let us know how it goes.  Good luck.

  2. my son is only a month old but what i found helps is if u give him a bottel at night because then he gets more and wont fall asleep when eating there for he will sleep longer

  3. That's a tough one just give him a bottle.

  4. My son still wakes up a few times during the night to drink breastmilk at 28 months. So when you find out how, you let us know! Good luck!

  5. I recommend the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Dr. Marc Weissbluth. He has excellent techniques to help your child learn to self soothe.

  6. do you give him cereal or something right before you put him to bed. Some babies just don't sleep all night. my daughter didn't until she was three and my son is two and just now started sleeping most nights. the doctors could never find any reason.

  7. I dont know, my daughter is 11 months old and she still wakes up at night to nurse a number of times, unless it is bothering you, I would just him nurse, I mean before you know it he will 3 and be independent. I would cherish the fact that he wants you. Good luck.
