my son is 10 months and he has his first 2 teeth (the bottom front) Now he is woking on #3 and 4. but with the first teeth he didn't get a fever. Yesterday he had a fever 38.3 (armpit) I gave him motrin it didn't go away after a little over an hour so I gave him some tylnol then I gave him a room temp bath, he/we played for about 45mn to an hour then when he was ready to get out his temp was gone. I kept giving him motrin every 4 hours. then at bed time he was warm again so I gave him some tylnol. He was a horrible sleeper last night, he must have woken up 10 times. At 2 and at 6 i ended up giving him more motrin. but his temp didn't go down the last time until about 9:30 he isn't interested in his solid foods I even tried to give him corn on the cob for breakfast and a popcicle both of which he loves (I mean he laughs histarically when he see's either one coming his way, on a normal day) But he is drinking his bottles. Is it common to have that high of a fever with teething??? and it seems like the motrin and tylonl isn't working as well as it should. and seriously in the last 36 hours he has had more motrin and tylnol the he has in his entire life! My drs office is closed and where I live we only have one hospital and they are a bunch of a$$hole pricks that don't know anything! the last time we went there they said there was nothing at all wrong with him and asked if i was there because of me thinking he was sick or if i was there cause i didn't have enough suppoirt at home! so then i took him to a different city where he was kept for 3 days!!!!!!!! please if you have any advice i would love to hear it

do you think this is just from teething??? he is being cranky but i'm assuming that comes with the fever. i give him hyland teething tablets and for the last two teeth you wouldn't have even known he was teething!! i really hate to see him like this he normally is so so happy.

:( is this normal? should we go to the hospital? :( thanks for your time!

  1. your doctor's office should have an answering service that will put you in touch with the doctor on call. you really need to talk to a doc.

  2. I'm not sure what that celcius temp is, but you really don't need to give a baby motrin or tylenol unless their temp is over 101 Farenheit.  Remember, a fever is USEFULL.  it's fighting a bacterium, virus, etc.  You want there to be a fever, it means your son is healthy and his body is doing what it was designed to do.

The best thing you can do is to make him comfortable.  Strip him down to just a diaper and maybe a thin onesie, try to get him to drink plenty of clear liquids (water, apple juice, pear juice, etc.) and give him luke warm baths.  NOT cold baths.

    Good luck!!

  3. Yes - temp is high enough to take him in to be looked at.

You can try alternating Tylenol with Motrin - recommended by pediatricians. Give Motrin and then 1-2 hours later, give Tylenol. 4 hours later, give Motrin again, 1-2 hours later, Tylenol. Having them overlap really helps fevers go down.

I would take him in to see the doctor though asap. Keep him hydrated. His temp isn't dangerous or anything (over 40, which would be 104 Fahrenheit), but it's odd that it's not coming down with meds. Keep him comfortable and take him to the doctor today.

  4. I'm not a big fan of keeping kids medicated, even for teething, but one important question: Are you sure he's getting the right dose?  Our son had bumped up to the next dosage level (that is, he had gained more weight than we realized) and when he did have a fever, we couldn't get it to break - but that was because we weren't giving him a sufficient amount of medication.

Don't forget, though, that a low-grade fever is not something to worry much about unless your son's behavior is also off.  Keep him comfortable, but a fever is not a huge concern itself.  It definitely could be teething-related, in which case there's not much you can do except provide comfort and things to teethe on (wet, cold washclothes are a good option).

  5. I feel you are giving him way to much meds!

Babies are not grown ups, there systems can not handle drugs like that, and that much.

His temp is high, but it could be from the warm bath?  From the meds.

Take him in, quit the drugs, or get baby meds.

I froze wet wash cloths, bananas, strawberries etc.. for my three when they were babies. I would also rub there gums.

Wish you and yours the best!

  6. Ok I work in the nicu I suggest no hospital give the baby alternating baby tylenol and motrin every 4-6hrs as the bottle says also try orajel or a frozen teething ring,  he'll be ok

If his temp gets over 102.5 then take him to the er do not give him a cold bath that actually makes temp go up but you can wipe him doen with a luke warm wash cloth
