I am expecting a little boy soon so I've been working on his nursery. I'm now down to the last detail; the wall border. I got the border (which is pre pasted) today but am confused by the directions. Here is the border I got

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp...

And the directions are as follows:

1) activate paste by loosely submerging strip in water

2) remove slowly while folding paste to paste accordion style. Allow paper to relax several minutes.

3) position border strip on wall. smooth with brush and remove excess paste with clean sponge.

Now I'm not stupid, but just have never dealt with wall border before. Do they want me to submerge the entire border in water? (because it certainly didn't come with paste, it just says it's pre pasted) I'm afraid if I do that it will ruin it, but if that's what I'm supposed to do then I guess that's what I've got to do!

  1. I use a pan for wallpapering. You actually want to put your border into the water upside down. While each section is in the water take your hand and gently rub on the backside to help activate the glue. Start working your way through the roll, and rolling accordion style this means back and forth, make sure to do so as loosely as possible to keep from sticking. The thing is that you have to work very fast with it, also keep a wet hand towel with you as you put it on the wall the wet towel will make it easier to work with. You use a wall paper brush, that is the brush referred to. You take it across the outside of the border to smooth it.  Your towel will aid in the excess clean up. Also, a good idea to measure and mark your way around the room so that the border goes on straight. Sorry I couldn't view the border it didn't show it in your link. I really hope this helps. Good luck. And Congrats on the new baby!

  2. you dip the wall paper into the water it will become sticky when you remove it. Hold it at the tip for a bit and then place it on the wall and press firmly on it the get a sponge and wipe across and up and down to get all air bubbles out as well and it to firmly stick to the wall. If it doesn't take to the wall get the sponge a little wet and rub across it again. DO NOT LET IT SIT IN WATER FOR A LONG TIME or it wont stick as good. Should work it did for me when i did my sisters room  but sometimes it doesnt hold great so you might have to use staples on certain parts

  3. The are telling you to dip the entire roll in water (wallpaper tray).

A less messy method would be to use a longer nap roller cover and apply the water to the back of the border with the roller.  Apply the water liberally.

If you have never hung wallpaper border, you might want to read this basic hanging info: http://www.paintinganddecoratingconcours...

  4. measure the spot you are going to put the border on, cut it to size, dip the entire piece in water, fold paste side like an accordion, allow it to sit a few minutes. Now put it on the wall and smooth out with a brush. A dry dish towel will work just as well.

I usually do a whole thing of border at one time.

It really isn't that hard to do. Just sounds like ti.
