f i was exploring belonging in a text

does belonging cover a variety of things or it it specifically 'belonging'

eg could i relate belonging to a country, an environment, society and family

is it ok to do that?

  1. this is a wierd question but yeah, although some of the stuff in ur list dont have to do with belonging like traditions and class structure and individual and ceremonies and others try to filter them out


  2. No. You don't Belong to a country! that sounds to me as if the Country actually owns you. It sounds wrong. Ok let's see your list.

    1.What's a class structure? Do you mean social standing? Then yes.

    2.Family: Yes, you belong IN that family, not TO that family. Unless you're talking about an object.

    3.Gender roles: yes, a behavior can belong to gender roles.

    4.Religion: ok, here you can say that this belief belongs to a certain religion...

    Look, you don't make this any easy at all. It all depends if you're saying "I belong to", "I belong in", "I belong at"

    There is a HUUGE difference, ok?

    If it's a THING, as you say, it can belong to someone or many people.

    If it's a person, they belong IN a family.

    If it's an idea or behavior, it can belong TO a religion.

    You've got ME confused now :S
