How does the unemployment benefit extension work? I just got my last check today. Will I have to actually file for an extension or will the payments automatically pick up and be added to my balance which is now 0?

And please no smart a** remarks. I have been diligently looking for a job. There are none. No one is hiring because the economy is so f***** up. And don't tell me to go to McDonald's, cause even if I did I would have to get food stamps and other welfare assistance just to make ends meet on their salary.

To get it you do have to file for it.

I would file right now before there is a lapse. If there is a lapse then you may not qualify for the extension.

I am in the same situation. I will make my last payment request on this sunday my balance will also be 0. I spoke with the unemployment office after 20 minutes on hold they gave me another number to call and said that i have to file a new claim. They also said that the new claim only takes a few days to process and  that I should be filing on the same schedule as before. I am in texas. I suggest you contact the office in your state just to be sure. God bless and hope you ind a job soon!!!!
