what does semantics mean?

remember after fast and the furious came out? A.D.D. became popular and everyone started using it in every conversation? and then subliminal became popular around 2002 and everyone started using that word in every conversation. i'm sure you noticed it happens a lot with other words or phrases too. people recite them.

this year, i'm hearing the word semantics a lot. people are using them in many conversations. but i noticed that many people who say that word, they themselves don't seem to have it fully understood.

can anyone show me good examples to help me understand? i've looked everywhere on the interenet and i can't get a clear understanding of what this word means. people often use this word to describe the way a person is talking but WHAT DOES IT MEAN??

talk to me like i'm a 3rd grader... i won't be offended. i want to know the meaning of the word "semantics" like i know the meaning of the word "chair"
