I'm at work, and am working on a math problem, but I don't have a calculator.

Compute this for me?

3(root 2) / 3 + (root 2) = x

(In words, 3 times the square root of 2, divided by the quantity of 3 plus the square root of 2 equals x.)

Then, what is this x^3?

Thanks

  1. 3√2= 4.242640

    3+√2=4.414213

    3√2/(3+√2)=1.04044

    x^3 = 1.12629

    From what you wrote, I believe I have the parens in the correct spot, yes?

  2. From Windows Calculator:

    3√2=

    4.2426406871192851464050661726291

    3+√2=

    4.4142135623730950488016887242097

    1.0404401145198808577341776954382

  3. .887868678

  4. You actually have a calculator on your computer. Click on START > All Programs > Accessories > Calculator. Switch the view to scientific.

    3(root 2) / 3 + (root 2) = x    NOTE: 3root2/3 = root2 or sqrt2

    sqrt2 + sqrt2 = x

    2sqrt2 = x

    x = 2.82843

    x^3 = 22.62742 (this was calculated without clearing the calculator.

    Using 2.82843 as the value for x results in:

    x^3 = (2.82843)^3 = 22.62749

  5. Just type the following line into http://www.google.com

    (3sqrt(2)/(3+sqrt(2)))^3

    Answer to 5 decimal places is 0.88787.

  6. 2.82843
