  1. A1=700

    B1=500

    A2<=B2*3

    A2=A1-P/2

    B2=B1-P/2

    A2=700-P/2

    B2=500-P/2

    700-P/2<=1500-3*P/2

    700<=1500-P

    -800<=-p

    800>=P

    Each gave between 0-400.

  2. A = 700

    B = 500

    P = What each gave to Peter.

    (Al's amount - the number he gave to peter) is less than (Bob's amount - the number he gave to Peter) x 3

    700 - P <= 3(500 - P)

    Distribute:

    700 - P <= 1500 - 3P

    Add 3P to both sides:

    700 + 2P <=1500

    Subtract 700 from both sides:

    2P <=800

    Divide both sides by 2:

    P <=400

    ANSWER: Al and Bob each gave Peter anywhere from 0 to 400 cards.

    I hope this helped!!! :)
