I've been home-schooled since I was six- now i'm 13 and i'm getting bored with it- I think I want to go to school with all my friends- I know i'd love after-school clubs and sports- could you give me 10 reasons why I should go? I know a lot of people say you should go to meet new people, but believe me, i'm very busy for a home-schooled kid- I go to church youth group, choir, gymnastics, dance, book club, I'm busier than most of my friends who go to school and I make a lot of friends and meet a lot of new people. But i'm rambling.

10 reasons?

  1. Don't go to public school, it will rot your mind.

  2. I was home schooled from 9-16 and a couple of times I felt the same way. I didn't go back and thank myself for it now. I wanted to go to beauty school and got to at 16. Totally awesome when your the youngest at a college. If you do the same (not nessisarally beauty school) you'll receive allot of addmeration from others being so far ahead of others your age.

  3. your highschool years might be some of the funnest of your life, im a sophmore and i luv my school, believe me if you dont go your gonna miss out on so much.

  4. 1 make new friend

2 learn life experiences like saying no to drugs

3 U willl need to get a highschool diplomat to get a good job in your future

4 u could join clubs and find other things u r interested in

    5 new enveroment

    6

  5. Ok, I know I won't be able to give you 10 reasons, but...

    1) the environment of being in a high school is very different that being home schooled, and usually more enjoyable than being at home.

    2) Like you said, the after school clubs, and sports are also a good reason

    3) activities the school has (dance, prom, theatrical performances)

  6. 1. Huge exams that either make or break your life.

    2. Home you get very good scoalarships.

    3. Half of you socialzation skills are made in highschool  because kids become more mature.

    4. You can have real electives

    5. Many staderize books don't go up that high

    6. Gets much more harder

    7. Teacher get very deep in history which you need to know.

    8. You'll become more focused

    9. Better enviorment for learning in higher grade standers

    10. You can start have realationship with more mature kids becoming adults.

  7. Being bored is not fatal, look for solutions, or a more challenging program.

I can give you more than 10 reasons not to go, the first one being that you can not think of any reason yourself other than hanging out with your friends.

Trust me if you are as involved as you say you are that reason is also going to be off the table, don't you think.

I hear  life has it's boring moments, presently I do know the definition of "being bored", unfortunately I have little or no time to experience it.

Be happy that you have this kind of down time, you will have far less once you are an adult.

On the other hand depending on the quality of things that fill your time it is not a bad thing to be "busy" at all.

Although this does not directly answer your question, a web site often posted by a home school mom that will give you all the reasons to reconsider not going is

    http://www.successful-homeschooling.com/...

  8. I agree with Ray W

High school is made out to be this great thing.... It's not.

  9. The reasons your parents may have for not sending you to school is something i do respect, on the other hand, have you told them you want to go to school? I think you should and see how it goes.

Some reasons I think of are:

    1) You'll have teachers' expertise on subjects your parents might not be experts

    2) Teachers teach their classes with different approaches from which you will benefit, I mean, they'll ask you to do projects, presentations, videos, listenings and other different materials your parents might not have in hand.

    3) Most people are visuals, it means, they learn by seeing, if you are in class you'll get to see the teacher's explanation and might understand better.

    4) What your plans after graduating from school are? if you plan to go to college then you will benefit from group's work projects. It helps students work in a team and develop a project taking into account their participants' opinions.

    5) Working on special projects will give you the benefit of developing your creativity.

    6) Social developement seems not to be a problem for you,

but going to school gets to show you diversity in all aspects and put in practice all the values your parents have taught you so far.

    7) Having a schedule will give you a little view on how people structure their lives and how they program their days based on prioritites.

    8) Having after school activities different from the ones you have now will make you feel better about yourself.

    9) Having home/school responsibilities will give you the opportunity to demonstrate yourself and your parents you are mature.

    10) Definitely the environment is different from home/church so it will help you develop alternate abilities different from the ones you have developed so far.

I think you should talk to your parents about the way you feel about this situaton, I'm sure they'll understand.

I hope to have helped you and good luck!!

  10. ONLY if these things are interesting AND availalble:

    Drama Department (plays)

    Music and Orchestra (band, choir)

Lab equipment for Biology, Chemistry and Physics

    Video production department

    School radio station

School news paper with printing press

Shops for auto, plastics, electronics, metal, fibre glass

    Those are the POTENTIAL ups

    Don't forget the downs

    Expensive terrible caffeteria food

Boys and Girls VPs who yell at you and give you detension for being 30 seconds late to class

Having to raise your hand an announce you have to go WEE WEE and get a hall pass

Sitting alone because you're not a Goth or Nerd or Brain or Preppy or Jock and you don't buy your undies at Victoria Secrets (hey, let's face it K-Mart clothes don't cut it it in HS)

Living with teachers who don't like you for no reason

    Homework

Being singled out and ridiculed becuase for some reason you can't find a pen or pencil in your back pack!

  11. Well, if you are talking public school:

1.) If you like all the junk that goes there you should go

2.) If you like shallow friends

3.) If you like people liking you for who you are with rather then for who you are

4.) If you liked to be bullied

5.) If you like crude humor that degrades girls to objects then you should go to public school

6.) If you like people looking down on you because you don't wear what everyone else wears, you should go to public school

7.) If you like (*^(**(*&*%^&^$&_)())(& and other similar words and phrases you should go to public school

8.) If you like the attempts to keep God out of everything you should go to public schools

I think I'll stop there. Enough said. I think you get the point were I'm coming from.

  12. Well, honestly you sound like you've got it going on with homeschool. All the things other people mentioned hold no excitement imo, because I went to public school and found it dreadful. However, everyone has their own way of looking at things. If you are bored, something is missing. Find out what that is and try to find the solution now. There is no need to wait until you can enroll in public school next fall. Can you think of activities and studies you might find more challenging or interesting? Maybe you need to drop some of your old hobbies and try something new? Maybe it is just getting close to Spring Break and you've got spring fever? Maybe you need to throw a party or get away with your parents for a weekend of hiking and horseback riding? I know that doesn't directly answer your question and I'm sorry about that. It could be that you would benefit from going to school in the fall, but your reasons have to be yours and not mine or anyone else’s. Until then, don't let today be wasted or boring. Good luck!

  13. You get to go to prom and other dances

    Sports

    Clubs

Classes or subjects you wouldn't normally be able to take at home (ie. anatomy, debate, physics).

You can get letters of recommendation from teachers when you apply for schools.

    Yearbook

    Counselors

    School and afterschool events.

Counselors who can help you with a number of things

    Afterschool and school event

Facility (computer lab, kiln, blackroom, etc) that lets you explore.

You can get involved with certain organizations at the school (ie. ROTC, FFA, etc).

Allows you to join certain programs, honors  for example.

  14. What's so magical about 10? If people can give you 10 reasons to go, then you'll go? What about 10 reasons to stay homeschooling? Just something to think about.

Another thing to think about: what about just changing something about your homeschooling? Getting bored with something doesn't have to mean ditching it entirely--that type of thinking would have you move house every time you got bored of your house or get a divorce every time you decided you were "bored" of your spouse.

10 reasons to go to high school:

    1) You want to be in a group all the time (even if you have to be quiet most of the time).

    2) You want to be able to do the same homework (often 1-2 hours a night) as friends and/or with them.

    3) Your parents are honestly worried about you learning what you need to know for college prep and feel ill equipped despite research into different programs available.

    4) You want to be able to eat cafeteria food on a daily basis. ;)

    5) You want to know you're getting exactly the same education as everybody else in that school.

    6) You want to be in school sports, rather than community sports, or be able to support a school team as a cheerleader or something along those lines, and the school won't let you unless you are a student there.

    7) The high school offers some sort of program that you really want to participate in and that you can't do through homeschooling.

    8) You'd like to be a member of the National Honor Society or some other similar thing for scholarship or posterity purposes, a membership that is restricted to those who are in public schools.

    9) Something about the whole social aspect just really, really appeals to you.

    10) You really do crave something new and different. With parental permission, you could try it out for a semester or year and have the option of returning to homeschooling if it's not your cup of tea.

There are probably just as easily 10 reasons to continue homeschooling. Just because you have enough reasons to do something doesn't mean it should be done. Think in terms of your long-term goals, of your personal desires that benefit your long-term goals, discuss it with your parents then choose what you feel is the best thing for *you*. I have known some homeschooled kids who went through the whole process and decided to go to school--most of them were quite happy because they'd really thought about it and weighed both sides. Some realized that they didn't quite know what they were getting into and went back to homeschooling. I've known other kids who couldn't be paid to go to high school--they are very happy at home and wouldn't give up the benefits of it for anything.
