10 things of the Indy car race in Brickyard 400
The year’s race resulted in some exciting moments and was a less troubled event, as compared to the last year’s event. It provided us with great moments, some being breath taking and others being very entertaining. Jaun Montoya wasn’t able to grasp the victory that he almost had in his hands.
However, there are some things that can be taken out from the race. These things taken out from the race are not affected by the race itself though. This however will help the teams to have better idea where they stand with The Chase draws closer. The most surprising moment was when the dominating Montoya’s car crashing out with 12 laps remaining.
Classic Indianapolis Start; involved the spin of Kyle Busch as in the Indianapolis 500 race. Going into turn two, multiple drives were involved in the turn. However, no one was involved in any incident. Kyle Busch also avoided any crash after he spun.
Another thing that was seeing at the Indy car brickyard 400 was the number of empty seats. Although, ESPN raised some concerns over this issue but they were not given as much importance. The Indy Car faces the matter of its less popularity compared to other motorsports like Formula 1 and Moto GP.
The over-heating issue was a main factor of drivers facing tire issues. The wet grass stuck on the car grills and caused problems that led to drivers doing mistakes. Ryan was one of the drivers who put one tire on the ground and then had it replaced but later again blew up the tire.
Jaun Montoya was without a doubt, the best driver in the race. He dominated the early part of the race without any challenge. However, he lost his lead to Jimmie Johnson during the pit. Looking in perfect condition, Montoya managed to get his lead back by crossing Jimmie Johnson. This is the second time he has worked so hard at the Brickyard 400. This will surely be the topic of discussion until we come across the next Brickyard 400 race after him crashing out with only 12 laps remaining.
There were a lot of drivers who came across problems during the race. The first of them all was Kyle Busch, who spun on the very first lap and then pit to get his tire repair. He however managed to finish in the 8th spot. Joey Logano finished behind his teammate Kyle, despite facing problems during the race.
The RCR cars did well in qualifying and all three finished in the top six. Harvick came out of the middle of nowhere finish in second position. Bowyer finished fourth and Burton finished in a solid sixth position.
Jimmie Johnson looked fired up in the beginning and so did his crew. However, as the race progressed, Jimmie lost the pace that they had and slowly they started to lag behind. With about 42 laps to go, a warning was issued regarding debris on track and they were the last car. They had a shock that had to be replaced, which they couldn’t manage and fell a lap behind. Jimmie finished in 22nd position, while his teammate Jeff Gordon finished in 23rd. Montoya’s crash took Dale Jr. in the wreck and as a result he finished in 27th position. There was not a single Hendrick car seen in the top ten at the end of the race.
Greg Biffle was a surprise package of this race, who carried the Ford flag and managed to finish the second best on the day. Although not regarded as a very good driver he brought some relief to the disappointed manufacturer.
The hometown hero is always expected to do good and eventually win the race. In this case, there were three of them. All three manage to achieve nothing extra ordinary. Newman had a tire problem at the start of the race, Gordon never seemed to win the race as he was never ahead and Steward admitted that his 5th position felt like a win for him.
McMurray’s win gave the owner triple crown of Dayton 500, Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 all in the same year. He is the only person to have achieved this. Montoya’s car was the best of the day but he managed to win and give Chip Ghanassi the third and final win that was needed for the crown.
