$10 to win on Derby pays what?

The horse paid $11.80, so if I had $10 to win, I'd get back how much? I thought this means I win $11.80 for every $2 I bet, so you multiply this by 5, and you get $59, but then I add my original bet of $10 and that is a $69 payout...right? I gave the money to a friend and he thought they only paid him around $50, but he cashed serveral tickets. Thanks

  1. LOL i had the exact same thing. Nice Bet

  2. It is 11.80 to every $2 bet, so the answer is $59.  The original $10 is part of the payout.  Odds on Street Sense were 9-2, so the 11.80 reflects the 9/2 payout + the original 2 bet, along with some dimes that were left over.
