Question:

10 week old waking at night every 2-3 hours?

My baby girl is 10 weeks old and still wakes up every 2-3 hrs. during the night. I was hoping by this point she would sleep at least 4 hrs. at a time. I am soooo sleep deprived, I just can't seem to nap during the day since we just moved and there is so much to do. Any suggestions on getting her to sleep a tad bit longer at least ? P.S. she is formula fed.

  1. I feel your pain about being sleep deprived.  At this point there really isn't much you can do about it. At around three or four months then  you can start trying to get her to bed at a certain time.

  2. There is not much you can do, sorry.

There is the usual feeding before sleeping, but 2-3 hours is pretty normal for babies, and you should probably expect this until she is at least 5 months. The most recent baby in my family did not sleep a whole night until he was 8 months, and still that was a rarity.

Only tip I can give you is sleep while your baby is sleeping. Always. Day, night, whenever she is, you should be too.

  3. my baby is 4 months old and im lucky if she goes 3 hours!

  4. I'm sorry to have to tell you that this is perfectly normal and you're just gonna have to wait it out.

When you feed her is she emptying the bottle? If so you could make up a bigger amount of milk if she's fuller she may sleep a bit longer.

  5. That's completely normal!!

You can try cluster feeding her (Say she goes to bed at 9, then feed her at 7,8 and 9).  You can also gently wake her up enough to take a bottle right before you go to bed.  I know this can be done with breastfeeding, I'm not sure about bottle feeding.  If you're able, then this may give you a longer first stretch

  6. I know you don't actually want her to wake every 2-3 hours, but it's a good thing that she does.  It keeps her from getting too deeply in REM sleep and falling victim to SIDS.

There's not much you can do to get her to sleep longer.  You can try a warm, soothing bath right before bedtime.  Maybe try to tire her out a bit more by doing stretching exercises (pull her arms and legs in and out) for 20 minutes- my mom did it with my boys when they were younger.  Don't know if it really helped or not- but it sure didn't hurt.

She'll start sleeping more in the next few weeks.  Don't worry about the stuff that needs to be done around the new place.  Unpack what you need and let the rest sit until you have the time & energy.  Take your naps now-  once baby is older, you won't have this luxury :)  (Although I should take my own advice because both of my boys are down for a nap right now & it's a rare occurance that they nap simultaneously........hmmm.  Naptime for me!)

  7. 10 week olds can sleep longer?? LOL I know it is really rough, but at least take a few naps with her during the day to regain your sanity. Have you tried cosleeping? My son sleeps so much better. Even at 7 months he will wake constantly if he is in his crib alone. We moved a month and a half ago and we are still unpacking. You'll just have to realize that it is impossible to get everything done as fast as you used to. It will be okay. If you have friends/family that can help you, ask them to come over. Good luck!
